1956 Austin Healey 100 / 4 - BN2 Le Mans modification
The first Austin Healey 100's were known as 100-4 or BN1. The name 100 came-about by being able to break the 100-mph barrier. The BN also had meaning. The B represented the engine class which meant it had between 2000 and 3000 cc. The N represented the body-style configuration, two-seat and open-top.
In October of 1955, the BN2 was introduced. The BN2 was similar to the BN1 in design but now featured larger drum brakes and a new four-speed transmission with overdrive.
The 100M was a Le Mans variation of the BN2 with an increased horsepower rating of 100-110. It featured bigger carburetors and modified distributor. Valve springs and anti-roll bars were added to the suspension. During its production run, 1100 of the Le Mans BN2's were produced. - Daniel Vaughan | Mar 2006
This 1956 Austin Healey 100 was built in April of 1956 by Donald Healey Motor Company in Warwick, United Kingdom and shipped to United States the following month. The cars Chassis, Body, and Engine numbers are proved to be matching by the British Motor Industries, Heritage Trust.
The Austin Healey underwent a well-documented, rotisserie restoration in 2001 and has been very well maintained since. Paint and body work was performed by Paint Works, in Dover New Hampshire. The Red and Black exterior remains in very good condition and shows well against the pristine black interior.
The original 2,655 cc inline-4 engine has been fully rebuilt as well as the 4-speed manual transmission. Restoration was completed to as near factory condition as possible, using top quality parts and accessories.
During restoration, the high performance “M” kit was added. This factory inspired package includes larger SU carburetors, a cold air box to improve engine air flow, a high lift cam shaft, high compression pistons, stiffened front suspension, bonnet louvers, and the leather bonnet belt. This package brings the BN2 to near 110 hp.
